The consistency and anti-sagging performance of mortar are very important indicators. The mortar must be easy to apply, at the same time with the appropriate consistency and no sagging while applying as thick mortar. Same properties are required in tile adhesive, which can help to support heavy bricks perpendicular to the wall.

  1. The testing method of consistency-

International standard EN 1015-3 fresh mortar test methods — part 3 (including revised A1: 2004) defines the test method of consistency which adopts jumping table method; while EN 1308 defines the test method for measuring anti-slipping in tile adhesives.

  • A proper anti-slip property and best consistency can be achieved by adjusting the viscosity and particle size of cellulose ether. The mortar consistency increases with the increase of viscosity and admixture amount. The finer the particle size, the faster the initial consistency of fresh mortar increases.
  • Modified cellulose ether products have significant effect on factors of mortar as follows-

A. Improve of slip resistance;

B. Improve construction performance;

C. Increase water demand;

D. increase thickening effect;

E. Reduce the stickiness of spatula;

F. Increase the output of mortar;

G. Extend operating time.

  • The thickening effect of modified cellulose ether is often higher than that of the cellulose ether results from itself.
