SidleyChem observes that Knauf India has recently launched Knauf Drystar, a specialized fibre-reinforced gypsum board system designed for humid and wet environments. The product addresses the growing demand for moisture resistance, mould protection, fire safety, and durability in modern construction, reflecting the broader industry trend toward high-performance, functional gypsum building materials.
Key Product Features:
-
Moisture & Mould Resistance: Features a moisture-resistant glass-fleece surface and a specially developed gypsum core, with water absorption of less than 3% and high resistance to mould growth.
-
Fire Performance: Classified under EN 15283-1 as GM-FH1IR and carries an A2-s1,d0 fire classification, making it a non-combustible building material.
-
Durability: Enhanced surface hardness, improved mechanical strength, and termite resistance.
-
Construction Efficiency: Installs similarly to standard gypsum boards while leveraging the speed and efficiency of dry construction systems.
Applications:
Knauf Drystar is suitable for interior dry construction systems exposed to high humidity or intermittent water contact, including residential and commercial washrooms, hotels and spas, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, airports, shopping centers, balconies, and covered walkways.
Sumit Bidani, CEO of Knauf India, commented that modern construction increasingly demands materials that address durability, moisture management, hygiene, fire safety, and sustainability. Drystar combines superior mould and moisture resistance with the speed and efficiency of dry construction systems.
SidleyChem Perspective:
The gypsum building materials industry is accelerating toward higher performance, durability, and multi-functionality, driving sustained demand for high-quality additives. SidleyChem remains committed to providing the gypsum building materials industry with high-performance gypsum retarders, cellulose ethers (HPMC/HEMC), redispersible polymer powders, and superplasticizers, supporting efficient and stable production of gypsum boards and gypsum-based products.
