Tile Adhesive Formulation
This article presents a simple C0 grade tile adhesive trial comparing the effects of different viscosity cellulose ethers on open time and tensile bond strength, providing reference for formulation optimization.
1. Base Formulation
The following base formulation was used (unit: parts):

Note: Three test groups correspond to Cellulose Ethers A, B, and C respectively, with other components kept constant.
2. Performance Test Results

3. Analysis
-
Open Time: Medium viscosity (B) performed best at 10 minutes; low viscosity (C) performed best at 20 minutes with minimal decline, showing better open time retention.
-
Bond Strength: Low viscosity (C) showed best performance at both 3d and 28d, reaching 1.20MPa at 28d; high viscosity (A) showed lowest strength at only 0.73MPa.
-
Overall Performance: Low viscosity cellulose ether demonstrated good performance in both open time retention and tensile bond strength, making it more suitable for C0 grade tile adhesive formulations.

4. Conclusion and Recommendations
This trial indicates that for C0 grade tile adhesive formulations, low viscosity cellulose ether (e.g., 40,000) shows superior performance in open time retention and tensile bond strength. Formulators are recommended to prioritize low viscosity cellulose ethers and optimize based on cost and application requirements.
