Thixotropic Agent

01 Overview

Thixotropic agents impart thixotropy, sag resistance, and lubricity to systems by forming lamellar network structures in aqueous media. Primarily used in mineral-based and paste-like systems, they enhance the workability of construction chemicals such as mortars, adhesives, and self-leveling compounds. This manifests as easier handling during application with reduced resistance, while maintaining high viscosity and stable particle retention when stationary.

Thixotropic agents are additives that impart thixotropy—meaning they allow a material to be gel-like and stable when at rest, but become fluid when agitated or stirred. They are widely used in paints, wall putty, dry mortars, and other suspensions to improve stability and workability.
