Defoamers eliminate foam and are the most widely used additives across various industries. Despite their common use, some customers still encounter misconceptions during the addition process.
Today, we will discuss when to add silicone defoamers and what precautions to take before addition!
1. Two conventional methods for adding silicone defoamers
1. Add before foaming This method involves pre-adding defoamers to systems prone to foaming to inhibit foam formation. In closed containers or equipment, defoamers effectively eliminate foam.
2. Continuous drip addition When foam forms in circulating or flowing liquids, defoamers are consumed by the fluid flow. In such cases, continuous drip addition ensures effective foam elimination. Using a metering pump can further control the addition rate for optimal cost-effectiveness.
Now that we know when to add defoamers, what precautions should be taken before addition?
2. Precautions before addition
First, thoroughly mix the emulsion before use. Uneven emulsions can cause separation, impairing defoamer efficacy.
Second, use thickeners for dilution. While silicone defoamers can be diluted, dilution reduces their stability. If separation occurs, use thickeners for dilution. If water is used, add it to the defoamer and stir slowly; use the diluted solution on the same day
